There is the possibility of a knitting class in my future.
When I was a young lass of 20 (ie, 6 years ago...ok, almost 7), I wanted to learn how to knit. My mother tried to teach me, but I had long been a crocheter, and holding the yarn in my right hand was NOT COMFY. I figured out a way to knit holding the yarn in my left hand (little did I know this was the sometimes coveted Continental knitting, and not of my own invention). My mom, had no idea what I was doing, but knew that the stitches coming off my needles WERE knit stitches...she was quite confused. Frustrated, I said I was going to take a knitting class, and my mom, who had been wanting to learn to crochet, said she'd take the class with me. Our local high school was offering adult education classes, including a combination knitting and crocheting class.
I learned very quickly (especially after my teacher told me that what I was doing was fine, keep at it), and I really enjoyed her style. You could go to the class to basically learn anything, as the project choice was left up to you. I learned cables at the same time.
I wondered if she kept teaching after the class ended, and it turns out she still does, so I'm thinking about returning to learn a bit about colorwork and stranding. I really want to make mittens, and I'm a little scared of them and the charts that go with them. I've been eyeing a Japanese knitting book pattern, which would send this project right over the edge of hard for me...foreign pattern, chart, colorwork...EEP.
What do you think? Should I do it? Or should I just go and do the pattern on my own like I normally do? I don't get out much, and I think that's part of the reason I want to....just to leave my apartment. Money's due on Friday, ($65 bucks!)
I just love your mom.
Take the class. I think you'll feel better about colorwork and stranding once you've had the class. Plus it will get you out without landing you in trouble or anything. :p

Absolutely you should take the class. If you already know that you enjoy this teacher's style, then who better to learn colorwork from? Go for it!

Take the class! I'm sure you could manage the color stuff on your own just fine and all. But I think the getting out would be a nice change of scene for you. :D
